How do I join?

Send an email to coppellshootingteam@gmail.com and we can walk you through it.    See the tab "Join the Team" for all the required paperwork. You will have to complete Part I of the Texas Hunter Safety Course online [https://www.hunter-ed.com/texas/], and e-mail us  the completion certificate/card.  Team leadership will register you with SCTP (Scholastic Clay Target Program).  

How old do I have to be?

Any student in 7th – 12th grades can participate

Where & when do we practice?

We practice at the Grand Prairie Gun Club, which is an easy 20 minute drive south on the George Bush Turnpike/161. Practice is held on Saturday mornings, at least once a month. Coaching is provided, and parents must be present in a ratio of 5 shooters:1 parent or coach. As a token of our appreciation to the GPGC for sharing their facility with us, CCST helps to load targets for the club. Three to four times a year we will be asked to come early and flex our muscles to help this shooting community. All team members are expected to attend. Target loading is always scheduled on a day we are there to practice.

How do we compete?

We attend SCTP tournaments that are made up of a combination of the three clay target events: Skeet, Trap and Sporting Clays. There is one tournament per month scheduled beginning in November and running until June. Tournaments happen at shooting clubs and ranges all over North Texas, including in Ft. Worth, Waxahachie, and Decatur.  We try to squad our shooters so that they can shoot together at a time when we can get to the range and home by a decent hour. Some tournaments require an overnight stay, but participating in all tournaments is not required.

Who pays for tournaments?

Tournament entry fees are paid by the shooter (usually $65-80 per event) to the team, prior to the event, and are not refundable. The team is required by SCTP to pay for all members who have signed up to participate. If you are unable to attend at the last minute, another team member may take your spot and reimburse you directly
